After researching the country on where to raise their children and to follow their dream of owning a wedding venue, Martin & Paula Ramirez moved from California to discover their future. On April 1st, 2004, with their life savings in a cashier’s check, Paula arrived at an auction for a historic mansion that was in ruins and in dire need of new owners and a new life.
“We found the Mansion going up for auction in the newspaper, and didn’t really think we had a chance, but I showed up, said my prayers and crossed my fingers…15 minutes later the Mansion was ours,” Paula remembers.
“It was gloomy that day,” adds Martin. “It probably made it look worse than it was. I wasn’t sure what we were getting into at the time.”
Since then, what Martin and Paula have done with the property is extraordinary. With a lot of hard work, time, and countless investments dedicated to the restorations, Historic Mankin Mansion Wedding & Event Estate is now celebrating its 15th season of hosting weddings.
“Once we moved in and really started to analyze the grounds and the property, I found that there was something beautiful in the Mansion. We really started envisioning where things could go for weddings, and the flow of the ceremonies,” says Martin.
And they were right! With the option of having the ceremony in the Gallery or the formal English Gardens, the Grand Pavilion Tent for receptions, and the beautiful lawn for cocktail hour, Historic Mankin Mansion was curated specifically for celebrations, offering old world elegance to every event. With nearly 1,000 weddings planned and hosted, it’s no wonder that Historic Mankin Mansion was named “Best Place To Get Married” by Orbitz, and receives top honors and accolades year after year.
Martin and Paula have continued to update the Mansion, adding countless comforts and further beautifying the estate to ensure the best wedding experience possible. Just last year they added a patio overlooking the Mansion Meditation Maze as well as opened the Summer House Parlor to offer a lovely spot for hair and makeup. The Grand Pavilion Tent has been updated as well, including a new marble dance floor.
Martin and Paula are grateful for the unending support they receive from clients, friends and the community. They are honored to share this Historic Landmark Estate with others and to do what they were intended to do, celebrate Love.
